Masala Crabs

My kids started eating seafood when they were little. Eating crabs is a lot more complex....making sure you eat the meat and throw out the shell deftly. It's a skill indeed.
This recipe is a heavily influenced by my Bengali roots and love for Goan food.

4 crabs cut, cleaned and washed
1 tsp turmeric pd
Salt
2 tbsp of sesame oil
Marinate the crabs with salt and turmeric for a couple of minutes. Lightly fry them in oil for 3-4 minutes and keep aside

2 onions minced
1 tsp ginger- garlic paste
2 tbsp curds
1 tsp turmeric pd
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 bay leaf

Grind the following to a paste:
1 cup coconut
1 tsp jeera seeds(cumin)
1 tbsp coriander seeds
6-7 red chillies (or as per taste)
2 cardamoms
3-4 cloves
1/2"  cinnamon

Heat 2 tbsp of sesame oil, add cumin seeds and bay leaf. Once brown, add the onions and fry till lightly golden. Next add ginger garlic paste, turmeric and curds. Fry well.
Add the crabs, salt to taste and the ground masala. Add enough water to make a thick curry. Cover and simmer for 6-7 mins. Garnish with some chopped cilantro and 1 tsp of ghee. Serve with rice or Goan bread.
