Mixed Daal



Soak overnight in water:

(      1/4 cup whole red lentils( whole masoor  daal)

      1/4 cup Black lentils (whole urad daal)

      1/4 cup split Bengal gram ( chana daal) )


2 tbsp ghee

1 tsp cumin seeds 

1 small onion minced 

1 tsp ginger, minced 

1 tsp garlic, minced 

2 green chilies chopped 

1 tomato, chopped 

1 tsp turmeric pd 

1 tsp chili pd

1/2 tsp coriander pd

Salt to taste

Cilantro leaves to garnish


Heat ghee in a pressure cooker, add the cumin seeds. Next add the onions, fry for a minute. Next add the ginger, garlic and chilies. Fry for 30 secs and add the tomato, turmeric, chili pd, coriander pd. Fry this for a couple of minutes. Next add the washed lentils, salt and 2 cups or enough of water. Pressure cook for 3 whistles or until cooked. Garnish with chopped cilantro leaves  and serve with rice or roti. Add a dash of lemon juice before eating.
