These much loved fritters or ‘boras’ in Bengali, take me back in time when I was little and mom would serve them alongside heaped rice and hot daal. I have discovered that they taste great plain with some hot rice and a drizzle of ghee as well.
1 cup split pea( matar daal) soaked in water for a couple hours
1/2 tsp turmeric
1/2 tsp nigella seeds or Kalonji
1/2 cup chopped spinach
2-3 green chilies chopped
Salt
2-3 tbsp mustard oil or any other oil
Roughly grind the split pea in the mixer till it’s a thick and rough paste. Add all of the remaining ingredients and mix very well. Leave aside for half hour. Now heat a non stick pan, add the oil. Once hot, mix the batter again and then add tea spoon full of the batter and shallow fry on a medium heat till golden on each side. Serve as a snack or with some rice and daal.
